The Official Jellycat Bashful Bunny…
I’m talking Original Jellycat London Bunny here, ladies.
I’m a sucker for softies, always have been and bunnies are just my favourite. The ultimate Luxury in soft toys as well as other products is brought to us by Jellycat.
When I was pregnant I had so much fun preparing and decorating the nursery. Peter Rabbit is my favourite childhood theme. It’s so classic and there’s no better way to give it a modern twist than to pair it with bunnies from Jellycat in the décor department.
A modern take on the story telling is a bit more of a challenge as the dialogue is from 1903 and my husband and I have a laugh listening to the audio books.”Presently, Mr McGregor is in his garden…”, nobody speaks like that anymore, but hey, I have no problem if my daughter learns a bit of High English and we have fun imitating the accents.
I will hang onto the Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit theme for as long as I possibly can because one morning I could wake up to a daughter asking for Frozen or some Disney theme that’s been highly commercialized by the masses.
I bought these bunnies in different colours and different sizes, from different shops, I even got some as gifts at my baby shower.
One morning I found myself confused about the different prices I paid at the respective outlets and had a closer look the quality. I mean I knew that they felt different, especially the bigger ones weren’t as dreamy as the small and medium ones. But then I realized how different they actually looked as well, apart from the size. I checked the fabric, the stitching, the weight, the materials in general. And then I realized something was up.
I had been cheated, misled and someone had quite literally been pulling wool over my eyes.
I have a problem with counterfeit goods. It’s a moral issue for me. It’s an ethical issue for me. It’s an honesty issue for me. Now, don’t get me wrong, this is just me personally. I don’t necessarily have a problem with PEOPLE who don’t mind buying counterfeit goods, I have a problem with the GOODS.
My husband bought counterfeit Havaianas when we were in Thailand last year. I don’t think that he is a dishonest or unethical person because he bought them, but I could never do that myself. If the original Havaianas are R10 and I only want to spend R7, I prefer to buy the original Real Cloting brand slip slops from Pick ‘n Pay Clothing for my R7. (This is maybe not the best example because there was no Pick ‘n Pay in Thailand on the day he needed them and my husband too will rather buy originals, but you catch my drift).
There is an original brand in every price bracket. Our wardrobes are full of brands like Pick ‘n Pay clothing. From expensive to more affordable brands, we proudly support originals.
This is how my relationship with Jellycat London was born as I was keen to replace the counterfeit goods with Originals Only and learn more about which shops to avoid buying fake Jellycat Bunnies from. Some copies of original brands are done so sneakily that they even copy the label and sew it onto the product. But trust me, you can feel the difference in the label too.
Now that the Poppet’s nursery is somewhat evolving (but still Peter Rabbit) we have welcomed some other little creatures which can also be found in Mr McGregor’s garden.
The bunnies have some sort of beads in their buttocks that can make them sit up for display if you like but yet they are still super soft, lightweight and fluffy for cuddles.
You can explore all the quirky cuteness from the creators of the softest toys you have ever hugged and adored. Established in London in 1999 and launching many new soft toy designs every January and July, there is always a perfect gift for all ages!
I was tempted to put this blog post and product review under the “Mom Blog” section but purely because they also have amazing soothers, rattles, books and educational toys too, I’ve left this one for the kids.
We have subsequently gifted the counterfeit products to Charity’s 3-year-old daughter Molly.
In an attempt to save a mom from going through the costly and deceitful experience that I had, I include a list of some of the shops that carry stock of the original Jellycat London brand.
